  • Welcome to 6th Grade Band 2024-2025

    Dear Parents, We are excited that your student has decided to join the Dickerson Band Program. Below you will find information about steps to finalize band scheduling, what you need to get for your student (including the instrument), and what to expect the first few weeks. If you have not, please use the link below to fill it out. Registration Link What your child needs for band The Dickerson Band only supplies the following instruments: Euphonium - you still need to purchase a mouthpiece and a book Tuba - you still need to purchase a mouthpiece and a book Oboe - you will need 3-4 good reeds and the book Bassoon - You will need 3-4 good redds and the book If your student is playing Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet, or Trombone they will need to rent or buy an instrument. You can find flyers to all our local music stores using the link below. Music Store Flyers Materials needed for Flute, Clarinet, and Alto Saxophone Flute, Clarinet, and Alto Saxophone players will need to rent/buy an instrument. Oboe and bassoon players will use instruments supplied by Dickerson, but you will still need to get reeds and the method book. The following materials will be required of all band students during every rehearsal.   Students should bring each of these items to class every day , unless instructed otherwise. Percussion students should speak to Mr. Brown before making any purchases.      Band Method Book Habits for a Successful Beginning Band Musician (you can either order it online or go by a local music store to get it). Mouthpiece  for Clarinets and Saxophones Hard rubber mouthpiece for clarinets and saxophones. The mouthpiece that comes with the instrument is adequate for beginners, but upgrading a mouthpiece has a huge effect on playing and sound for our students. The instrument should also come with a ligature. This is a piece of metal or cloth that holds the reed to the mouthpiece. Reeds (Clarinets, Alto Saxophones, Oboes, and Bassoons)   Every woodwind student is expected to have 4-5 playable reeds at all times. Students that use reed cases and are careful with maintenance tend to keep reeds longer. We recommend that all students start on strength 2.5 reeds for clarinet and saxophone and Medium Soft reeds for Oboe and bassoon. Other items   A pencil. This is a requirement for every class. You may never use a pen in class since it destroys music. Neck strap (saxophones and bass clarinets) Cleaning cloths and swabs that are appropriate for your instrument. Other items that are not required but recommended include: Music Stand for home use Contact Mic and Tuner Link   Music Binder   All music must be kept in a student’s three ring binder. Students will be responsible for replacing lost sheet music Your binder should include: Divider tabs, clear plastic sheets to keep music and handouts, a pencil pouch to keep pencils, supplies, and a tuner. Materials needed for Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, and Tuba Trumpet and trombone players will need to rent/buy an instrument. Euphonium and Tuba players will use instruments supplied by Dickerson, but you will still need to get a mouthpiece and the method book. The following materials will be required of all band students during every rehearsal.   Students should bring each of these items to class every day , unless instructed otherwise.   • Welcome to the Dickerson 6th Grade Band

    We are so excited to have our 6th Graders instrument testing the first few days of the school year. Your students will get to take a tour of all of our connections classes including band. While in band, students will try out all of our instruments to get a feel for what might fit them, and what they would be successful at. We encourage your student to come in with an open mind and try out all the instruments.   • Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year

    We are so excited to start another school year here at Dickerson. Below you will find the band handbook and calendar. All returning 7th and 8th graders should review the handbook with their parents and fill out the "Handbook Acknowledgement Form" below. You will not need your instrument until the second day of school.

  • Hoodies now for sale

    You can now order hoodies for your students in my payments plus. You can choose size and color when you order. If your student received a free hoodie from the fundraiser, you should have received an email last night in CTLS Parent. All orders are due by Sunday March 19th. Please let us know if you have any questions.

  • LGPE Information for 7th And 8th Grade

    Parents, We are approaching our LGPE performance on Monday March 20th. Attached you can find the detailed itinerary (it has not changed since it was sent home in February). You are more than welcome to come see your student perform at South Cobb High School. We will be feeding the students Chick-Fil-A at South Cobb for dinner. Students will receive either a Chick-fil-a sandwich or a veggie wrap. Below you will find a form that everyone needs to fill out. Meal cost will be $7.00 per student and all payments will be made in My Payments Plus. Google Food Order Form

  • Uniform Update

    For LGPE we will be wearing concert black again. Ladies will wear what they wore in December. Gentlemen will be wearing black pants and black dress shirts again.     All LGPE Permission Slips and Intent Forms are due tomorrow. Please download and print the files below if you are missing them.

  • 8th Grade Trip Update

    Dear 8th Grade Band Families, We have been officially approved to start collecting money for our 8th Grade Spring Trip. Attached to this email you will find information about how to set up your online account with the travel company, The user guide shows you step by step instructions. When you get to the step with a trip number, our trip number is: 2305-11-50 Obviously our first payment schedule will not work. We are working with the travel company to come up with a new schedule. In the mean time, you can go ahead and make your first deposit of $200 ($65 of which in NONREFUNDABLE). If you have any questions please let us know.
